Plastics recycling to be expanded in Hesse

Also with regard to current events, the topic of sustainability and reuse is high on the agenda. The plastics processor & recycler General-Industries Deutschland (GID), headquartered in Kassel, is therefore investing a further 3 million euros and expanding its site in Eschwege in the area of EPP and EPE recycling.

The recycler is concentrating its reprocessing activities of lightweight plastics – EPP (expanded polypropylene) and EPE (expanded polyethylene) – at the Eschwege site, which is logistically conveniently located in the middle of Germany. Another plastics processing and recycling plant will be built there this year, capable of producing 11,000 metric tons of plastic regranulate per year. The investment will also create up to 20 new jobs.

Once again, GID has decided to purchase a plastics processing plant from Starlinger recycling technology. Equipped with the high-performance degassing module C-VAC and a Maag/ Ettlinger melt filter, this plant can also process problematic materials with foreign substances such as paper, metal or rubber and turn them into high-quality regranulate. After completion of the plant, GID will have an annual capacity of plastic regranulate of more than 18,000 tons of PP and PE regranulate at the Eschwege site alone.

“As the European market leader in plastics recycling of EPP, GID serves a wide range of companies (raw material producers, compounders and processors). Through a Europe-wide network of 20 mobile as well as stationary EPP compactors, GID is able to bring low-density input streams into an economical material cycle. And the demand for plastics recycling continues to grow exponentially. This strategic investment allows us to grow together with our customers,” says Matthias Henning, co-owner of GID.
